Hoichoi's Feludar Goyendagiri Season 1 Review: Story, Performance & Analysis

Feludar Goyendagiri, a six-episode series directed by Srijit Mukherji, was released on Hoichoi on June 17, 2022. Based on Satyajit Ray’s Darjeeling Jomjomat, the story opens with a scene from director Pulak Ghoshal’s upcoming movie, written by Lalmohan Ganguly (played by Anirban Chakrabarti). The film stars Rajen Raina (Saheb Bhattacherjee) as the hero and Mahadev Verma (Subrat Dutta) as the villain, with the shooting taking place at Birupakhho Majumder’s (Barun Chanda) home.

Majumder informs Prodosh Chandra Mitra (aka Feluda, played by Tota Roy Choudhury), Tapesh (aka Topse, played by Kalpan Mitra), and Lalmohan Ganguly about his hobby of keeping newspaper clippings of crime news, inviting them to his home to see them. He also introduces his son Samiran (Suprobhat Das) to the trio and requests Feluda’s help if he ever meets danger. A few days later, Majumder is killed while everyone is busy shooting the movie. Feluda arrives, and Inspector Jyotish Saha (Loknath Dey) assures him of full cooperation, and the rest of the story revolves around how Feluda finds out about the killer.

After the massive response to Feluda Pherot, there was significant anticipation among the audiences for this series, and watching Tota Roy Choudhury as Feluda again was one of the most exciting parts of the series. Anirban Chakrabarti's brilliant performance as Lalmohan Ganguly stands out, as he consistently delivers top-notch performances, such as in Eken Babu, Rabindranath Ekhane Kokhono Khete Asenni Series, or movies like The Eken, Kakababur Protyaborton, FIR, Mukhosh.

In the series, Chakrabarti's Hindi-speaking and his expression after hearing the director has added a female character to his story were a treat to watch. His dialogue to Subrat Dutta, "Aap manmara mat hoiye," was hilarious. His performance was the major highlight of the first three episodes, which kept the audience engaged.

Tota Roy Choudhury impresses with his versatility in the industry, especially in scenes where he shares his observations on actor Mahadev Verma or in the climax when he shouted at Rajen Raina. The supporting cast, including Kalpan Mitra, Rahul Banerjee, Barun Chanda, Subrat Dutta, Saheb Bhattacherjee, Mainak Banerjee, Suprobhat Das, and Loknath Dey, provide good support with their respective characters.

Director Srijit Mukherji once again hits the ball out of the park with this web series, with his brilliant storytelling being the primary reason for its success. Tota Roy Choudhury's casting as Feluda is also a highlight of the series.

Overall, Feludar Goyendagiri is definitely worth watching for Srijit Mukherji's excellent direction and solid performances by Tota Roy Choudhury and Anirban Chakrabarti.
