The mystery thriller “Chehre” was released in theatres worldwide on 27th August 2021.
Chehre Story:
Sameer Mehra (Emraan Hashmi), the chief of the ad agency Paradoy, was going to Delhi for a business appointment. There was heavy snow outside & he decided to take the shortcut but gets stuck because of a tree fall in the middle of the road.
There he met Paramjeet Singh Bhullar (Annu Kapoor) who suggested he take shelter in his friend Jagdish Acharya’s (Dhritiman Chatterjee) house nearby until the situation outside gets better.
Sameer agreed and thanked him for the help. Along with Jagdish Acharya, Hariya Jatav (Raghubir Yadav) was there and after some time Lateef Zaidi (Amitabh Bachchan) also arrived there.
During their conversation, they informed Sameer about their profession & the game they play every day. He found it interesting but was not ready to participate in it initially due to his lack of knowledge about this profession.
The rest of the members including the mysterious house help and painter Anna(Rhea Chakraborty) were able to convince him in playing the game with them.
Performance & Analysis:
“Chehre” which means “faces” failed to bring something unique and fresh to audiences which they were waiting so long. Especially when the theatres are opening after such a long time and going to watch a film having stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi, Dhritiman Chatterjee, the expectations of audiences will always be high.
Amitabh Bachchan is in very good shape and was the only reason to watch “Chehre”. His character as a public prosecutor could remind you of his powerful performance in director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s movie “Pink”, co-starring Taapsee Pannu, Kriti Kulhari, Andrea Tariang, Vijay Varma, Angad Bedi.
Emraan Hashmi, Dhritiman Chatterjee, Annu Kapoor also provided valuable contributions with their respective characters. Rhea Chakraborty had little scope in the script to impress but Krystle D’Souza was quite impressive during her short screen presence.
An undeniable fact is that the leading stars of “Chehre” tried their best but the weak script could be the reason for your disappointment. Director Rumi Jaffery who is also the co-writer of the movie should have worked more on the script.
