Murder In The Hills Series Review: Story, Performances & Analysis
Murder in the Hills marks the directorial debut of Anjan Dutt for the web series.
On the eve of his 66th birthday, the famous actor Tony Roy(Anjan Dutt) arranged a party and invited his near and dear ones there. The story was narrated by the Investigative Reporter Amitabha(Arjun Chakraborty) who introduces us to other characters of the series.
Amitabha has a good relationship with the School teacher Sheela(Anindita
Bose). She is also a close friend of P.T Teacher Bob Das (Suprobhat Das). It
is also heard from people that Tony Roy is in a relationship with General
Physician Neema(Sandipta Sen).
Other than the above-mentioned persons, Film Director Bijoy Mukherjee(Sourav
Chakraborty), DSP Suvankar Banerjee (Rajdeep Gupta), Tony’s trusted friend
& writer Ranjan Ganguly(Rajat Ganguly) were also invited to his party.
During the celebration of the party, Tony died of a heart attack. Amitabha
suspected that it was a planned murder, so he started the investigation to
collect proofs that can help him publish the truth of Tony’s death in their
newspaper.
As the series progresses we saw some past events that are connected to present-day’s incidents. The events gave us a clearer idea of the story.
The writing and execution were not up to the mark of the national
award-winning filmmaker. Anjan Dutt was highly impressive for his directorial
movies like Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona, The Bong Connection, Dutta Vs Dutta, Madly
Bangalee, Chalo Let's Go, etc.
Anjan Dutt & Arjun Chakraborty tried to keep the series alive with their
valuable performances. Anindita Bose, Rajdeep Gupta, Sourav Chakraborty,
Sandipta Sen, Suprobhat Das, Rajat Ganguly, and Saswati Guha Thakurata also
provided decent performances with their respective characters.
The crime thriller failed to keep the suspense alive. The story was quite
predictable and lacked depth. A few scenes from the past looked repetitive. The
romance between Amitabha & Sheela looked forceful.
What were the highlights of this series?
For Neel Dutt’s lovely music and a few good performances from the lead cast,
the series can be considered a one-time watch. The series was mainly shot in
Darjeeling and the scenic beauty was quite attractive Murder In The Hills was an effort to pay tribute to Agatha Christie.
