Shakuntala Devi Review:  Story & Performances

The film is based on the biopic of the mathematical genius Shakuntala Devi. The titular character was
played by the gorgeous Vidya Balan. She had the ability
from her childhood to solve any mathematical equation faster.
Soon her brilliance was brought to the notice of her parents.

Then her father started to take her to different mathematics
shows where she used to perform and earn something. She
keeps achieving newer heights and then she also earned a
place in the Guinness Book Of World Records in 1982 edition.

She was sent to the UK After she shoots the person with whom
she was in a relationship as he was trying to cheat on her.
There she meets an IAS officer named Paritosh Banerjee
played by the charming Jisshu Sengupta.

Jisshu has played the character of a loving, caring, and supportive
husband as well as a father so nicely. After their daughter,
Anu played by Sanya Malhotra came into their life, Shakuntala
Devi realized she is losing her focus and she wanted to start her
stage performance again. Jisshu supported and assured her of
taking full responsibility of their daughter.

The problem arises when their daughter grows up as Shakuntala
Devi was unable to maintain the balance between her first love
Mathematics and her daughter.

Shakuntala Devi’s relationship with her daughter was never good.
Anu wanted to marry Abhaya played by Amit Sadh who is having
the dream run of successive web series and films like Breathe,
Breathe 2, Yaara, Avrodh, etc.

He has done a fantastic job here also. When Shakuntala Devi came
to know that Anu will not shift to London with her, she disagrees
with her daughter’s marriage to Abhaya.

The director Anu Menon has portrayed the Mother-daughter
relationship beautifully. The film is about how Shakuntala
Devi has tried to balance her life with her ambition. We have seen some
emotional moments in her relationship with her parents, husband, daughter,
and son-in-law.

Her speech in the climax was the most emotional part of this movie. It
was a solid performance from the talented Vidya Balan who tried to give
her top performance this time also and she really succeeded in it. We also
should not forget the contribution of Sanya Malhotra was quite amazing as
Shakuntala Devi’s daughter’s role.

Some awesome performances from Vidya Balan, Jisshu, Sanya, Amit made
this a must-watch movie. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
