Anant Mahadevan’s Aksar 2, the erotic thriller featuring Zareen Khan, Gautam Rode, and Abhinav Shukla, completes eight years since its release on 17 November 2017.
For Abhinav Shukla, the film arrived as his second major outing after Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans, and it also brought him together with Zareen Khan for the first time. Gautam Rode, appearing in his fourth feature after Annarth, U, Bomsi & Me, and Agyaat, shared the screen with Zareen Khan for the first time as well.
Mounted on a budget of ₹9.50 crore, Aksar 2 collected ₹12 crore worldwide but could not achieve commercial success. The project also introduced cricketer S. Sreesanth to the big screen.
This film marked Anant Mahadevan’s 12th venture in Hindi cinema. Mithoon composed the soundtrack, continuing his association with the director after Aggar. For Zareen Khan, this became her tenth film appearance, counting four earlier cameos in Ready, Naan Rajavaga Pogiren, Veerappan, and Wajah Tum Ho. Jeetendra Shah served as the editor, collaborating with Mahadevan for the first time.
The writing was led by Anant Mahadevan, with Sanjeev Puri handling the screenplay. The narrative draws from the 2006 release Aksar. The cast was supported by Mohit Madaan, Lillete Dubey, S. Sreesanth, Denzil Smith, and Rushad Rana in key secondary roles.
Maneesh Chandra Bhatt worked on the cinematography, reuniting with Mahadevan after The Xposé. The film was backed by Shyam Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj under the Siddhi Vinayak Creation banner, and distributed by Tips Industries along with Eros International.
Its music album comprises three tracks—“Aaj Zid” and “Jaana Ve” rendered by Arijit Singh, and “Tanhaiyaan,” sung by Amit Mishra.
